"Must-have" or "nice-to-have"? Accessories for your hearing aid

Whether for care, maintenance or as a practical addition to your hearing comfort, we inform you about suitable accessories for every occasion! In addition to essential spare parts, we will introduce you to additional technical accessories and reflect on their usefulness. The goal is to have made transparent at the end of the article which products are actually useful for you and your hearing aid, and which ones you can literally save yourself.

Spare Parts & Batteries

Even with careful handling, maintenance needs occasionally arise. The products listed here will contribute to the life and sound quality of your hearing aids as replacement parts.

  • Batteries: Anyone who owns a battery-powered hearing aid must regularly replace the small energy suppliers. Batteries come in four different sizes 10, 13, 312, 675, with type 312 being the most commonly needed. As a rule, a runtime of 7-10 days can be expected with these, with 13-series batteries even up to 14 days.
  • Substitute earpiece: If even changing the filter doesn't bring back the sound quality you're used to, changing the earpiece may be the solution! Replacement earpieces for stand-alone replacement can be found here: AudioService, Bernafon, Hansaton, Oticon, Philips, Phonak, ReSound, Signia, Starkey, Unitron, Widex.
  • Cleaning & Care

The care and cleaning of your earing aids is essential for its functional preservation and the extension of the service life! In addition to professional cleaning agent, drying plays a supporting role in the care process. Suitable products are listed below. For detailed information, feel free to check out our Cleaning and Care Guide.

    Technical Accessories

charging stations: The standard charging stations that come with the device are often limited in their functions and most prove to be unwieldy. Purchasing additional charging stations as accessories promises additional features, such as an integrated powerbank for on-the-go use (this is integrated in the Oticon Smart Charger, for example).

Here's how to get the on-the-go charging station from Audio Service and Signia. An integrated powerbank can also be found at Bernafon, Philips, ReSound and Starkey again. Hansaton, Phonak and Unitron also offer handy versions. At Widex, the charging station even includes a drying function.

TV/phone adapter: In order to use the full functionality and connectivity of your hearing aids, additional adapters are sometimes indispensable. Through such an adapter, a connection with the TV or the phone can be established in no time. So you can receive the sound of external devices clearly and comfortably directly through your hearing aids!

Here you can access the matching TV adapters from Audio Service, Bernafon, Hansaton, Oticon, Philips, Phonak, ReSound, Signia, Starkey, Unitron, Widex.

Additional microphones: When staying in difficult listening environments or situations, choosing an additional microphone can provide improved speech understanding. For lectures or church services, the microphones, for example, from Audio Service, Bernafon or Signia can be placed in front of the speaker to transmit their voice directly to your hearing aid.

Hansaton's uDirect and Starkey's SurfLink pair with external devices so you can listen to music or movies through your hearing aids. There are also options from Oticon and Philips to connect to your phone or laptop. To better follow table conversations, ReSound and Phonak, among others, provide relief. Driving noise can also limit speech comprehension; for this, microphones from Unitron and Widex can help you understand.

    Remote Controls:

Especially when dexterity is waning, or even for convenience, remote controls can be an asset! With their help, hearing aids are much easier to adjust. Mostly they offer the option to regulate the volume and to select the program. Especially for small ITE hearing aids (such as the Signia Silk), remote controls are a handy solution.

Here you can find a remote control to fit your hearing aid from AudioService, Bernafon, Hansaton, Oticon, Philips, Phonak, ReSound, Signia, Starkey, Unitron and Widex.

    "Nice to have" or "must-have"?

So which accessory is actually worthwhile and which is merely an expensive accessory? There is simply only one diplomatic answer to this question: It all depends on what you expect from a hearing aid, what your daily routine is like, and what your budget may be. In our experience, accessories tend to be rather unpopular because, as the name implies, they have to be purchased in addition.

In addition to spare parts, batteries, or cleaning products, the acquisition of which is indeed unavoidable in case of doubt, technical accessories can also provide added value in everyday life. charging stations with powerbank function are particularly suitable for people who are on the go a lot. TV adapters create relief in families, as they can significantly lower the volume level in the living room. Additional microphones are helpful for churchgoers, students and pupils, frequent users of public transportation, or listeners at lectures. Remote controls can be used for sheer convenience or as an actual aid for lack of dexterity.

Which accessories are ultimately a "must-have" for them and which nevertheless rather falls into the category "nice-to-have", remains entirely up to your own perception. As always, hearing and your hearing needs are as individual as your fingerprint! Therefore, we can only ever provide you with an overview and make recommendations. The evaluation of a necessity of the additional accessories for your life remains in your hand!
